Compatible with optional 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters for a maximum focal length of 840 mm and 1200 mm at F13, respectively, providing excellent image quality and AF performance. The zoom and aperture range of the 1.4x teleconverter is 280-840 mm at F8.9, and that of the 2.0x teleconverter is 400-1200 mm at F11-13.

The new optical design with 5 ED glass elements and an aspherical element provides superior resolution and image quality throughout the zoom range. The aspherical element suppresses spherical aberration as well as distortion, and the ED glass elements minimize aberrations that can occur at super-telephoto focal lengths.

The lens mechanism is controlled by Sony's powerful DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) system, so focusing is fast and precise. This means that every movement can be captured. Pinpoint autofocus is also lightning fast. In addition, the DDSSM system is incredibly quiet.

Beautiful, natural G Lens bokeh

The circular aperture with 11 blades can be used to further enhance the lens' beautiful bokeh. Take advantage of the shallow depth of field at super-telephoto zoom focal lengths to create stunning shots with a deep, soft G Lens bokeh.

The internal zoom mechanism means the length of the lens does not change when zooming, allowing stable, handheld shooting. Adjustable focus hold buttons are located in 3 places, each 90° apart. Fluorine coating on the front element and dust and moisture resistant design ensure high reliability in demanding conditions.

AR Nano Coating reduces ghost and light effects

Optical SteadyShot with 3 modes

Optical image stabilization facilitates handheld shooting of sharp images at super-tele focal lengths. MODE 2 enables panning shots. MODE 3 is suitable for dynamic sports or nature shots and makes subject capture easier with the more stable viewfinder image. 5-axis image stabilization is available with compatible bodies in the series.

Focus area limiter for faster focus

A focus range limiter selector switch allows the lens autofocus range to be set to 2.4 to 10 meters, 10 meters to infinity, or unlimited autofocus. This provides faster autofocus in certain situations by preventing the lens from focusing on subjects outside the target range.

Internal zoom enables stable shooting

The internal zoom mechanism means that the length of the lens does not change when zooming, enabling stable, handheld shooting. This also means that the distance between the front element and the subject does not change.

The linear-response manual focus adjustment ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle movements during manual focusing. Focus ring rotation translates directly into a change in focus, providing immediate and precise control.

Detachable tripod mount

Thanks to the detachable tripod device, quick switching between hand-held shooting and shooting with a tripod is easy. The device can also be removed for transport and storage if necessary. A locking mechanism prevents accidental removal.
