Sony's original Nano Coating suppresses unwanted reflections that can cause light flare and ghosting in backlit or other difficult shooting situations. Less attractive bokehs, such as so-called onion rings, are successfully prevented by the XA elements, resulting in only wonderfully smooth bokehs in the out-of-focus areas.

Optimal resolution at any focal length

Consistently high resolution is achieved from infinity to the minimum focusing distance. The lens features a floating focus system with two independently driven focus units. This reduces all types of aberrations to a minimum and favors sharp, high-resolution images at infinity focus range, for example for landscapes, down to very short focus distances for portraits or similar subjects.

Two DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) systems with original Sony ultrasonic motors move two focus units in a so-called floating focus system. The DDSSM systems also operate extremely quietly, which comes in handy when shooting video and stills alike.
