The new XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors achieve a higher feed rate than conventional motors, increasing performance when Tracking moving subjects with current and future cameras by up to 5 times. Two of these new motors, along with newly developed algorithms, ensure unprecedented speed and precision in driving the lens' large focusing unit.

Due to the innovative optical design with three Flourit lens elements, the number of elements located at the front of the lens barrel is reduced. Overall, this results in a very light weight of only 2,895 g. The robust magnesium alloy components play their part in the weight reduction.

Functions for professional shooting

With full-time DMF, manual focus can be activated by turning the focus ring even when shooting in AF-C mode. Optical image stabilization is integrated and a new setting in mode 3 has a smarter algorithm that ensures optimal stabilization in dynamic sports scenes while making positioning easier.
