Specially tuned for cameras with a short flange focal length, the SIGMA DG-DN lens series offers a superior combination of optical performance and compactness that would not have been possible with lenses for SLR cameras. Thanks to the stepping motor optimized for both phase detection AF and contrast AF, the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary achieves absolutely smooth shooting with video and also eye-tracking AF. This lens will further expand the possibilities of photography with mirrorless cameras.

Unparalleled image quality
The new lens is based on the latest optical design technology and is optimized for mirrorless systems. The lens construction of the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary consists of 16 groups and 22 elements. These include an FLD lens and four SLD lenses, which serve to effectively correct aberrations and distortion. As a result, it delivers consistent high-resolution quality from the center of the image to the edges - at any focal length, from 100mm to 400mm.
When combined with the new SIGMA TC-1411 and TC-2011 teleconverters (available as an option and for L-mount only), which were also developed exclusively for use on mirrorless cameras, the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary then provides photographers with a "super telephoto angle of view" with a focal length of up to 800mm. In addition, AF is retained in combination with the teleconverters. The advantages of a compact system are not lost either. The combo remains powerful and compact.
Extensive functionality that ensures professional and easy implementation of ultra-tele shots
The stepper motor, optimized according to the latest algorithm, ensures fast and smooth AF. The SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary also features powerful optical image stabilization (OS) that compensates for up to four exposure stops. In combination with in-camera image stabilization, rotations of the pitch and yaw axis are corrected for even stronger image stabilization.
The lens' "Dual Action Zoom" means that the lens can be used as both a rotary and a sliding zoom, allowing photographers to adjust the angle of view even more intuitively and quickly. It features an AFL button that can be assigned camera-selected functions, as well as a focus range limiter switch that lets you limit and thus optimize the AF range to your particular shooting areas.
The lens' compatibility with the new optionally available SIGMA USB-DOCK UD-11 (for L-mount only), which was likewise developed specifically for mirrorless systems, underscores the lens' professional and functional design. In conjunction with the USB dock and the associated SIGMA Optimization Pro software, for example, the degree of focus movement can be adjusted when operating the focus ring, allowing the focus to work at its preferred pace in MF mode.
Lightweight and high-quality body
As a goal, SIGMA did not want to add just a lightweight and compact ultra-telephoto zoom lens to the Contemporary product line with the new 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary . The new lens needed to be just as professional and durable. Thus, meticulous attention was paid to the installation of selected and high-quality materials in this lens as well. For example, the components to which a tripod clamp can be attached are made of a robust and dimensionally stable magnesium alloy. The tripod clamp is available as an option. By using a tripod clamp, the stress on the connection points is reduced and nothing stands in the way of longer tripod use.
Intuitive handling
The lens also features an AFL button (1) to which the user can assign functions, and a focus limit switch that can be used to optimize the AF area depending on the shooting purpose. The zoom lock switch (2) locks the zoom ring at 100mm focal length and prevents accidental release. The OS switch (3) allows the user to turn the Optical Stabilizer on and off, and switch between Mode 1 for general photography and Mode 2 for, for example, motorsports photography.

Construction
The SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary has been redesigned exclusively for mirrorless cameras. It is shorter than the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary with the MC-11 mount converter for Canon EF mount.
Together with the SIGMA fp, the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary shows how compact a telephoto set-up can be. Next to it, a comparison to the 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports. Thanks to Dual Action Zoom, the zoom ring allows the lens to be used as both a rotating and sliding zoom.
You can assign various functions to the AFL button, such as AF lock, to make shooting easier. When shooting sports situations, you can press the shutter button with your right hand and use your left hand to activate autofocus.
Since telephoto photography often involves using a tripod, we recommend using the optionally available tripod clamp*. This ensures a good weight balance. To install the tripod clamp, remove the rubber ring on the lens beforehand. This rubber ring not only ensures a coherent appearance, but also protects the area where the tripod clamp can be installed. Furthermore, the included strap prevents the weight of the lens from putting too much stress on the bayonet when carrying it.

The autofocus, driven by a stepper motor, is fully compatible with the camera's AF-C mode.
