Thanks to the Phase Fresnel (PF) lens, the lens is very compact and the fluorine coating prevents water, dust and dirt from sticking. All moving parts of the lens barrel have seals that protect against dust and splashing water. The tripod adapter ring is equipped with bearings for smooth switching between portrait and landscape modes.

Three ED glass lenses provide images with vivid colors and very good contrast. Nikon's Nano Crystal Coat is highly effective at reducing reflections. So even when backlit, it ensures brilliant, clear images with only minimal occurrence of flare, aperture speckles or ghosting. Phase Fresnel (PF) lens flare is effectively reduced, ensuring outstanding resolution and excellent reproduction of point light sources. Sharpness without blur

Keep pace with action and light. Nikon's Image Stabilizer (VR) with SPORT mode takes the worry out of blur in any situation. 

Nikon's VR (Vibration Reduction) system compensates for camera shake during exposure. This allows you to expose up to 4 stops longer without blur than without VR.² The image stabilizer works extremely quietly and is activated as soon as you press the shutter button to the first pressure point. The VR mode "SPORT" is particularly helpful when following along and tracking especially fast subjects. It also provides a smoother viewfinder image during fast continuous shooting, without sacrificing image quality.

High-speed autofocus

The lens detects focus quickly and accurately and tracks it reliably as the subject moves. Electromagnetic iris control ensures precise and consistent exposure even at high frame rates.

Nikon's Silent Wave Motor enables extremely fast and quiet autofocus operation. Advanced AF tracking keeps moving subjects securely in focus, even when motion is unpredictable or the subject is moving quickly toward the camera. Electromagnetic iris control provides fast response and maximum precision. A focus range limit switch (FULL and 5 m) makes it possible to speed up focus acquisition even further.

Focusing features adopted from professional NIKKOR lenses offer outstanding adjustment capabilities. Focus modes (A/M and M/A) allow you to switch from autofocus to manual focus simply by turning the focus ring. The focusing ring is easy to adjust precisely thanks to its non-slip texture. The focus lock function allows you to save a distance setting for repeated use.
