Professional flash unit for unprecedented illumination
The SB-5000 i-TTL flash unit is designed specifically for professional photographers. It is compatible with FX and DX format digital SLR cameras and can be used both in the studio and in the field. This flash unit can be attached to either the camera's hot shoe, used as a wireless remote master or slave flash unit, and is compatible with Nikon's Creative Lighting System. This is the first Nikon flash unit that does not require direct line-of-sight between the master and slave units, thanks to wireless radio control. In addition, shooting in bright sunlight is more reliable. Nikon's new built-in cooling system increases the number of immediately consecutive flash firings and eliminates unnecessary interruptions. Other features include a guide number of 34.5 and a wide FX-format zoom range of 24 to 200 mm (14 mm with wide-angle diffuser). The optimized controls and improved menu navigation ensure convenient operation. Thanks to its compact and lightweight design, the flash unit is the perfect complement for your camera. Its three illumination profiles allow optimal control over the illumination of the image field in specific shooting situations. The wide-angle diffuser and built-in reflector card, along with the included diffuser, offer new creative possibilities when used with Nikon's optional color filters.
Control in demanding situations: Advanced Wireless Lighting with radio control
Designed specifically for challenging shooting situations, the SB-5000 is fully compatible with the new radio control feature in Nikon's Creative Lighting System. With the SB-5000 and the WR-R10 radio remote control, you can now combine both a single and a multi-flash system. With the SB-5000, you have the flexibility to respond to a wide variety of remote flash lighting challenges and to set up and control flash units in virtually any constellation. This also includes the complex combination of several flash units. In conjunction with the WR-R10 radio remote control, up to six groups of SB-5000 units are supported. Optical control is also fully supported, allowing older flash units to be used in multi-flash setups.
Professional flash unit that won't overheat even during long shooting sessions
From the red carpet to the catwalk, the SB-5000 won't get too hot even in stressful situations. The SB-5000 incorporates Nikon's new flash cooling system. This means you can take numerous shots in quick succession. At the same time, it's the first of its kind in the world to offer built-in temperature control for clip-on flash units. It's fast and reliable, allowing 120 shots at 5-second intervals or 84 shots at 3-second intervals. At full flash output, over 100 shots in rapid succession are achievable. The system prevents heat generation within the flash reflector, thus protecting against overheating: overheating protection has never been better.
Seamless integration with Nikon's acclaimed Creative Lighting System
At the heart of the SB-5000 is Nikon's i-TTL (intelligent through-the-lens) flash control, which enables Nikon flash units to share critical exposure information with CLS-compatible digital SLR cameras. The SB-5000 can be controlled either wirelessly as part of an Advanced Wireless Lighting system or conventionally through optical line-of-sight. Improvements in operation include built-in flash control, which provides additional system control capabilities. Now, operating the SB-5000 or changing settings can be done from the camera menu or a computer running Camera Control Pro 2 when the unit is attached to the camera body.
Compact design, clear controls
The SB-5000 has been redesigned for ease of use. Compared to the previous model, the unit is now easier and more intuitive to operate. As soon as you attach the SB-5000 to your camera or stow it in your travel bag, the difference becomes clear: the slim housing weighs only 420 g. The clearly arranged display allows for large, clearly arranged controls. The clear display provides a large, easy-to-read readout of shooting information. The multifunction dial and i-button give you quick access to frequently used or personalized functions: For example, pressing the i button instantly shows you the most important settings in a list when shooting with just one flash or with Advanced Wireless Lighting. As with the previous model, the SB-5000's flash reflector can be tilted down up to -7° or up to 90° and rotated 180° to the left and right.
