State-of-the-art electronic viewfinder

The EOS R5 features an electronic viewfinder so advanced that it seems as if nothing stands between you and your subject. With a resolution of 5.76 million pixels, 100 percent field coverage and a frame rate of 120 frames per second, you'll be completely immersed in the scene and can see what the image will look like before you shoot.

The electronic viewfinder is complemented with a 3.15-inch, 2.1 million-dot rotating and tilting touchscreen that swivels away from the camera body and rotates over 270 for comfortable shooting at unusual angles. The display can be rotated and swiveled and also stowed with the viewing surface facing the camera body for added protection.

A sensor on the back of the EOS R5 automatically switches from the live image display to the viewfinder display when the camera is raised to the eye, and can be configured differently depending on whether the display is flipped out or not.

DIGIC X Image Processor

The EOS R5 owes its phenomenal continuous shooting speed, excellent image quality and top-notch autofocus to the DIGIC X processor, which also controls the camera's other functions and provides tremendous responsiveness.

Two card slots: CFexpress and UHS II SD

The EOS R5 features two memory card slots: one for universally compatible SD cards (with support for high-speed UHS-II SD cards) and a second slot for ultra-fast CFexpress cards, which are required for up to 180 RAW files and some of the EOS R5's higher-resolution video formats thanks to their incredible 20fps bracketing speed. 

New battery with higher capacity

The EOS R5 is powered by the new LP-E6NH battery, which has 20 percent more capacity than the older LP-E6N batteries. This allows you to take (on average) up to 490 shots per charge.

LP-E6NH batteries can be charged with the supplied battery charger or in-camera via USB C 3.1 with 5 V / 1.5 A power supply. A BG-R10 battery grip is also available as an option. It can accommodate two batteries at the same time for longer shooting times.

Older LP-E6 and LP-E6N batteries are also compatible with the EOS R5, although the highest continuous shooting rates and in-camera charging are not possible when using LP-E6 batteries.

Professional quality

The body of the EOS R5 is made of magnesium alloy to withstand the rigors of professional use. The protection against dust and splash water and also enables use in harsh environmental conditions.

You can shoot premium 8K video internally in 12-bit RAW, or 4K (4:2:2 10-bit) at frame rates up to 120p for exceptional slow-motion effects. All of this is done across the full width of the camera's full-frame sensor for a truly cinematic look. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Face/Eye Detection keeps images sharp and enables impressive pull-focus transitions in all video modes.

The EOS R5 continues that tradition with groundbreaking video performance that redefines what filmmakers can expect from such a small camera.

Now also 8K RAW

The EOS R5 can record stunning 8K DCI RAW video internally to a CFexpress card, using the full width of its full-frame sensor to achieve a true cinematic look. Focus tracking is also available in the process, making the footage look like it was shot on a big Hollywood budget.

In addition to the lifelike image quality, the 8K resolution allows editors to crop footage so that the final footage is still in 4K resolution.

The EOS R5 offers various options for 8K shooting:

• 12-bit RAW,
• 10-bit 4:2:2 MP4/H.265
• 8-bit 4:2:0 MP4/H.265,

Various options are available in video mode, such as aspect ratio selection of DCI or UHD, compression methods ALL-I or IPB, and Canon Log or HDR PQ. Frame rates of 23.98p, 24p, 25p, or 29.97p ensure that footage looks the way you want it to. With IPB compression, 8K footage can even be recorded to a high-speed SD card (v90).

8K RAW offers the highest level of image quality and flexibility: resolution is four times higher than 4K, and you can change parameters like white balance after shooting using Canon Cinema RAW development software or your favorite editing software.*

You can also extract 35-megapixel stills from 8K footage in JPEG format (or HEIF format if shot with HDR PQ) ideal for situations where you need video footage and stills from an event.

Wireless connectivity options that change the way you work from the ground up

The EOS R5 offers Bluetooth Low Energy for permanent pairing to your compatible mobile device. Simply open the Canon Camera Connect app on your mobile device and the camera establishes a Wi-Fi connection that lets you view, rate and transfer shots from the memory card and remotely control the camera on your mobile device.

Premium connections

The EOS R5 is one of the most connected cameras we've ever built. Among other things, it offers the ability to send image files via your smartphone or Wi-Fi network to your clients, social media profiles, or on the go to cloud accounts via our image.canon service, so they're right at your fingertips when you're back home.

Super stable - super fast

Thanks to built-in dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi and support for 802.11a, b, g, n and 802.11a standards, the EOS R5 establishes stable wireless connections faster. A permanent pairing between the camera and mobile device can be established with Bluetooth Low Energy, which establishes a WLAN connection when needed, allowing you to view the footage, transfer it, and then edit it on your smartphone or tablet right on the spot.

With the Wi-Fi connection to the mobile device, you can also upload your shots to the cloud via the image.canon gateway or send them directly via FTP.

Camera Connect app

Start your digital workflow on the go before you even get home. As soon as you open the Canon Camera Connect app on your smartphone or tablet, the EOS R5 automatically establishes a Wi-Fi connection. This allows you to view shots from the memory card on the mobile device's screen and transfer or share them directly to the Canon Digital Photo Professional app.

You can also enable Auto Image Transfer on the EOS R5 to automatically transfer images to your mobile device immediately after shooting.

The app also enables wireless remote control of the EOS R5 ? for photo and video shooting. You can then select the focus point and exposure, for example, and use the Remote Live Image View to see the camera image on the mobile device display - ideal conditions for shooting from completely unusual angles.

Canon's new image.canon cloud service allows an unlimited number of original images, including RAW files, to be stored online in the cloud for up to 30 days. From there, image files can then be moved to image.canon's unlimited 10GB storage, Google Drive, Adobe Creative Cloud or local offline storage.

The EOS R5 is the first EOS camera to automatically upload images to the image.canon Cloud so that once synced, they are ready and available on a PC/Mac computer when needed at home.

FTP

For professionals who need to deliver photos quickly and securely from their location directly to their clients, the EOS R5 offers built-in FTP and FTPS capabilities via the camera's built-in Wi-Fi. FTP settings can be configured in-camera or offline using EOS Utility software, and up to 10 presets can be stored for instant recall.

The optional WFT-R10 WLAN receiver is available for the EOS R5, which also features a Gigabit Ethernet connection for wired network connections and offers MIMO antennas for WLAN with longer range and less interference. Secure image transfer via SFTP is also available.

When photos are graded or memoed in-camera, this metadata is also transferred along with the image files invaluable information for photo editors and agency staff.
