Ultrasonic focusing

The 9-blade iris diaphragm gives out-of-focus areas a soft and even appearance - allowing a foreground subject to be cropped against an attractive background blur.

The EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM features three aspherical lenses that provide razor-sharp image quality from the center of the frame to the edges throughout the focal length range. Two Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) lenses virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations. Super Spectra coating ensures excellent color balance and optimized contrast. It also minimizes aperture reflections and flare - a common problem caused by light reflecting off the camera's sensor. Flourite coatings protect the front and rear lenses from contamination by dust and splashing water, so optimal imaging quality is maintained.
