The enhanced G Master F2.8 telephoto zoom
All the power of Sony's latest lens technology delivers outstanding resolution and the most beautiful bokeh in the world's lightest G Master telephoto zoom lens with a wide aperture range. With advanced AF performance, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II unlocks the full potential of modern photo and video capture.
Unparalleled image quality
High image quality throughout the zoom range at all focus distances. 2 aspherical elements, 1 XA element (extreme aspherical), provide high resolution in image area. 2 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements, 2 Super ED glass elements and 1 aspherical ED element minimize chromatic aberration, AR Nano Coating II reduces reflections and ghosting. High performance 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverter available.
Beautiful G Master signature bokeh
Beautiful G Master typical bokeh is achieved with a modern optical design, an F2.8 aperture and a new aperture unit with 11 blades. XA element with surface precision of 0.01 microns reduces onion rings in the bokeh. New aperture unit provides natural, circular bokeh. Great close-up bokeh with minimum focus distance of 0.4 m at 70 mm and 0.82 m at 200 mm.
Fast, precise AF supports creative shooting
Four of Sony's original XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors enable an increase in AF speed of 4 times compared to the previous model . When tracking a short-range runner, the tracking is 30 % better when zooming compared to the previous model, and this increases the chances of getting a good shot.
AR Nano Coating II for Sharp Images
The AR Nano Coating II anti-reflective coating is evenly applied to the lens surface and ensures that ghosting and light effects are significantly reduced. The optical design of the lens mitigates internal reflections that can affect the clarity of images when shooting landscapes or sports.
Excellent close-ups
This lens offers high-performance close-up photography. The minimum focus distance is 0.4 m for 70 mm and 0.82 m for 200 mm. The maximum magnification is 0.3x. A deep bokeh at F2.8 allows for particularly expressive close-ups. With the floating focus mechanism, razor-sharp images are possible even at a minimum focus distance, while the inner focus ensures uncomplicated close-ups.
Professional video recording
State-of-the-art lens technology reduces focus breathing and focus and axis shifts when zooming. XD linear motors and a new iris drive unit enable quiet operation. The lens has independent controls for focus, zoom and iris with on/off click switch for the iris ring. Sony's linear response MF provides responsive, control with Direct Manual Focus.
Flexible manual video control
Separate controls for focus, zoom, and iris provide precise manual control of video recording. The iris ring with on/off click switch turns click stops on for tactile control in still photography - and off for seamless, quiet iris control in video.
The lightest in its class
This lens offers outstanding optical quality and AF in the world's lightest F2.8 70-200 mm zoom. XD linear motors and magnesium alloy cylinder components weigh only 1,045 g; that's about 29 % lighter than the old model. New design improves balance and constant cylinder length contributes to easy, flexible handling.
Professional reliability and operation
Flexible focusing thanks to features such as full-time DMF, MF with linear response and focus range limiter. An aperture ring with switchable click switch and an aperture lock provide additional exposure control. MODE 1, 2 and 3
optical image stabilization for sharp images, protection from dust and moisture with fluorine coating on the front element for maximum reliability.
Aperture lock prevents accidental exposure shifts
Aperture lock prevents accidental changes in exposure when shooting. The aperture is locked in position [A] or can be manually rotated between F2.8 and F22. The unlocked aperture ring can be rotated to [A] and all manual settings without restriction.
Full-time DMF supports precise focusing
When FULL TIME DMF is ON, manual focusing is automatically activated by rotating the focus ring, even when shooting in AF-C mode. This allows quick corrections when autofocus is on the wrong subject. It also allows the focus to be precisely adjusted after the initial autofocus setting. The focus range limiter switch settings have no effect on full-time DMF.
Natural, linear manual focus response
Linear-response manual focus adjustment ensures that when shooting stills and video, the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle movements during a manual focus operation. Focus ring rotation is directly translated into a change in focus, providing immediate and precise control
Optical image stabilization with MODE 3
Built-in optical image stabilization makes it easy to capture razor-sharp images handheld. MODE 2 stabilization is optimized for panning shots, while MODE emphasizes framing stability when shooting dynamic, unpredictable motion. 5-axis image stabilization becomes available when the lens is attached to an α body with built-in image stabilization.
Three customizable focus hold buttons
Three adjustable focus hold buttons spaced 90° apart facilitate operation and control when shooting horizontally or vertically from any angle. A function can be assigned to the focus hold button via menu settings.
Dust- and splash-proof design
The dust and splash water protectionhas been significantly improved compared to the previous model . All connection points are sealed, all buttons and switches have silicone seals and a rubber ring seals the lens mount. The internal zoom mechanism is now better protected against dust and splash water with constant lens barrel length
Detachable tripod mount
The detachable tripod mount makes it easy to switch between handheld and tripod shooting. The device can also be removed for transport and storage if necessary. A locking mechanism prevents accidental removal.
